Rear wheel adjusters disassembled

This is one of the Girling adjusters that I SHOULD HAVE left on my car when I rebuilt the entire brake and suspension system last fall.

I'll clean these up really well ad replace the units that one decided to cough up its studs on. BTW, these studs are in really tight. They're not going anywhere.

The parts have maybe 5,000-6,000 miles on them.

After the last thread that I ran about the studs falling out, I thought that I should show those who have never seen one apart what they look like. Quite simple, actually.

The center piston has a shaped triangular head with radius blended flat spots that allow the two side pistons to smoothly move on or out, depending on the rotation of the center piston, either in or out.

I'll also post pics after clean up and reassembly before installation.

I won't have it (them) off until Tues or Weds, Bob. I was playing around inside with these on the bench, so I took the shots. I need to make some room in my garage and I'm too lazy right now. I also need some brake spring pliers, that I really should buy, but Erik will bring his up next week and I'll have everything ready to swap at that time.

I still don't know if the studs fell out or snapped off, but they are both gone.

As I said, I'll post more pics as soon as I get the bad one off.
 
The brake springs are easily installed and removed by leaving them in place and removing the shoes. This gives the mechanical advantage to stretch the springs. I used brake pliers on other cars but not my TRs.
 
Peter you are not helping me stall on this garage cleaning program, which will impact the time allotted to my golf game on the last three day weekend of the summer!!

Since I can't drive the car with no headlamp or front bumper, I might as well procrastinate about the garage and play golf.
 
Hi Paul,
You were fortunate to be able to remove the adjuster bolt, I had one seized and snap off at the bottom. I coated the treads with anti seize (since the housing is cast) and lubed the 2 pegs with Mobil 1 syn grease.

Tom, that's why I suggested (in the other post on this topic) heating the body with a propane torch. Whenever I encounter a seized or really stubborn adjuster, I remove it from the car and heat until I can get the adjuster to turn. Then disassemble, clean, etc., etc. I've yet to lose one worth saving, i.e., not damaged otherwise.
