Hi guy's,
I'm a new member from cape cod MA. Im in serch for some information on mounting the rear view mirror to the dash on my 56. Im restoring an old v8 conversion from the ealy 70's. it was mostly complete, unfortunately not so for the mirror or any of its mounting hardware. Does anyone have a diagram or pictures of a mounted mirror? (under dash) thanks, bobird

Hi bobird, my brother from another mother. I used to live on the Cape, West Yarmouth. I miss Cape Cod!

Others will chime in about the early Healeys, but I believe they all attached in the same place, all Healey models, on top of the dash. There should be two holes, centered on the top of the dash where you screw it in. Under it, there should be a mounting piece.

Here's what a BJ8 mirror looks like. (My mirror has a longer stem, then original) I think your mirror will have a rectangular shape.
Roger

its and easy place to miss! bet you could go for some captain parkers chowder! It seems that there is a threaded plate and some sort of vibration damper on the underside of the dash. we're just not sure of the configuration? we have the mirror, mounting screws, and a threaded plate that we made. I think there may be more pieces but im not sure.

sorry i don't have much for engine components. i have lots of other parts available i'll try to post a list at some point.

thanks, we thought that the hole on the bracket may have attached to a rod and then to the fire wall. If I'm understanding correctly i'll need to drill a hole in my dash board? It's a new replacement dash so that may explain the lack of mounting holes. Does that sound right?

Thanks,bo

That's how it is on our BN2. There definitely isn't a rod to the firewall. I'd situate the mirror with the bracket and the nut plate--should be a couple holes on the cowl?--then mark your hole for drilling from the back of the bracket. There's some room for adjustment with the nut plate and the fairly large hole on the bottom of the bracket. IIRC, there is a thick, large diameter flatwasher required on the backside of the bracket. You only want to drill this once, and don't make the hole any larger than necessary (duh).

The only thing that affixes the dash are screws on either side and the screw in the middle. This photo shows the hole on a RHD dash:
