OK...Pant, pant, pant...I give up! What is the secret to getting the rear shock link off my MGB??? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I have removed the nut from the top of the link where the shock arm attaches...and can't separate the arm from the link, even with the shock loosened.

At the bottom of the link, the nut turns (thanks to generous amounts of Kroil, but so does the stud from the link...you know, that little rubber ball doesn't hold...will a pair of vice grips ruin it?

I am dropping the entire suspension (new springs and busings, but don't really want to replace the links, so how do you remove them? Is there a secret handshake or something?

Bruce, If I recall, the stud that gos thru the spring bracket has a couple of flat spots on it that a wrench will fit on to keep it from turning when you undo the nut. Mine is not handy now so I can't check for sure. Check it out!!!
 
Thanks Moe, but if there is a flat spot, I can't get a wrench on it...or even a pair of needlenose vice grips. I guess I will drop the spring plate, link and shock as one piece and see if I can get them apart on the bench...looks like I will have to part with a few more bucks for a new links...they are a least available, unlike the rebound straps. One of mine is worn almost completely through and the other is bad. Anyone know of a source for these for the CB MGB? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Funny thought today when I was cleaning up, cursing the engineering of these parts...I guess not to many things are designed to last 30 years /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Bruce, Moss list these straps for the RB MGB, part # 267-615 at about $10 each. Sorry you are having so much trouble with the links but they are a pain. Merry Christmas, Wayne
 
I need to stop posting so early in the morning...my 74B has chrome bumpers...I fixed it now...Moss shows the straps for the rubber bumpers but N/A for the chrome ;-(

Bruce, If you go with a rear tube shock setup, you will not need the rebound strap or the shock link. Some people like the conversions, others like the standard lever arms better...just a thought. I have tubes on my 67 and like them but they are much firmer than standard lever arms..
