TR2/3/3A rear shock links

I have always had trouble installing the rear shock links to a tr3. I end up lowering the mounting plate off the leaf spring and then hooking up the link and then jacking the two back into place. Today I tried an old link with a wore out bottom ball and push the link into the mounting bracket from above, but the new ones are too stiff for that, I think. I am curious how others have installed the shock link.

As I recall, I just followed the book, except I left the shock loose on it's mounting bolts until I had both nuts started on the link. That gives a little extra clearance, making it easier to get the pins in the holes.

Thanks Randal I always respect your opinion. My problem has been and is the 90 elbow bolt on the bottom of the link hits the frame before it will go into the hole on the leaf spring bracket and I would undo the bracket and drop it down so the 90 bolt could clear the frame.
