Rear hubs on a BN1

Anybody out there able to advise? I'm just about to start dismantling the rear axle on my BN1. Can the hubs be removed without the special tool mentioned in the manual? If so how?

Thanks

Take the nut off, etc. to remove the axle. I then turn the axle around and place it on the studs, leaving space for a socket to push against the rear housing where the large nut was. Using washers and the lug nuts, the axle can be used as a puller, drawing the hub off the rear casing as the lugs are evenly tightened.

Can we assume by 'axle' you mean the half shaft? Good idea, I've made a note of this method.
