MGB Rear engine plate

The torque for the bolts holding the plate is hiding from me in the bently manual. Are these picky?
Thanks for looking.

Not really. But the book has the 5/16" @ 20lb/ft and the 3/8" @ 30lb/ft.

Just be sure to replace the lock-tabs.

HTH!

First thing I'm trying to put together and realized I only THOUGHT I took to many pictures.
I'm seeing some have the rear main seal retainer. Seems like one of three things is possible
1 I misplaced mine
2 some one else has been in this engine before me AND lost it ( not to likely)
3 only earlier models had one.

The large bolts are 9/16 and have lock washers no tabs I remember or came in my nwip set.
The bently manual is surprisingly un helpful when it comes to the rear plate. Probably because it should be a cake walk
And I'm complicating it

I realized I did not ask a clear question.
Should my rear main seal have a retainer that I have misplaced?

The top two bolts had lockwashers. the rest had tabs.

I don't recall whether the later (later than 1969) engines had the retainer or not.

A poor photo but if you save it to your machine and zoom in, you can see the bolts and tabs.

All 5 mains had the seal retainer and later 5 mains did not have lock tabs. Very shallow head bolts and locks. The longer 3/8 bolts with the thicker heads are at the top of the backplate.

well I figured out why I didnt remember this plate at all. I left it on for the machinist. Found it in the box of old bearings and valves. I also found this guy. I know its not mine...

MGB distributor drive and retainer in bottom pic is a good thing to have as extras if they are not from your engine!
