rear engine oil seals

Since I will be pulling the gear box this fall, I've been watching the oil seals available. The one Moss sells is in two parts which screw together and several I've seen on Ebay are solid rings. Is one better? How does the solid one mount on the shaft if it doesn't come apart? They both say the engine need not be removed. Has anyone done this?

th, everyone ive spoken to that used these gave a post.responce, im using the same type as the"split"ring youve seen on ebay $ 38.95 i didnt buy it there but mine is exactly the same, the kit contains 4 -allen head screws,1- drill coller,1'spit ring seal with spring, and instructions with a template for removing the material from rear engine mount, you can use simple hand tools do this job, gregw, used the dennis welch seal and said it required removing more material from the rear eng. mount then this kit, simlpy put, scewing the collar in each of the crank end bolt holes, drill then tap each hole, install the seal and the aluminum flange with the four allen screws,if you need specs on drill sizes, bolt, sizes, depth of drilling etc. ill be glad to get them to you. keoke? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Hi TH, I do not know about a one piece rear seal for the big healey. However,if yours is not leaking excessively "I" would just forget it for now.If the rear seal is not leaking and you add the aftermarket rear seal you will not know whether its installed correctly or not. There are a few tricks to get it to work correctly.Like if the rear main bearing cap is not exactly aligned with the back of the block the pan has to come off----Keoke
