My 67 is back on the road Yipee!
I have seen an ad for "Stiffer" rear springs and am wondering if anyone here has purchased these or had their srings reset?

Sorry, I hate not having completed the orginal post,
It looks like the great profile shot "loumet1" from Lou Matelko on Page 8 of the photo section shows a re sprung
(and very tasty looking)4A

I just installed uprated srings on my TR4A yesterday. I am very pleased with the results. The ride is good as is the handling. It does sit a bit higher then factory springs though, with the uprated springs installed.

The specs on the springs I used were:
free length - 11.125"
outside diametre - 3.875"
wire diametre - .559"

After the install the wheel arch height came out to 28" for the rear and 27.875 for the front. The frame sat 7.5" off the ground in the rear and 6" off in the front.

I hope this helps.

How difficult ws the job?
ie:
Safety issues, additional parts and specialty tools required. Did you purchase new spring sets (from where) or did you get the existing springs reset?
Your assistance is apreciated!

Tom,
The job was not that hard at all. It did not require any special tools (though I did use an impact wrench only to save time but it was not needed). My son and I did it all in about an hour or so (and I was teaching him how to use tools and work on cars).

I see you are in Canada, so the place I got the springs is a good contact for you as well. He is in Kelowna and is a Moss and VB distributor in Canada. His name is Len Drake and he has a place called Drake British Motors https://www.drakesbritishmotors.com/main.shtml
He is able to sell the parts for less then I can import them direct from Moss (I guess volume helps). There is a phone number on the web site (tell him I sent you).

The only "trick" to the job was that you have to disconect the rear half shafts where they attach to the differential in order to allow the lower swing arms to move down enough to get the springs out/in. This is simply a case of removing four bolts. Other then that you have to jack up the car, remove the wheel, remove the one nut (and jam nut) that holds the shock link to the lower swing arm (the proper name for this is the trailing arm). That is all there is to it, the spring is just removed by hand as it is fully uncompressed at this point.

Feel free to email me direct if you want more detailed instructions (my email address is on my web site).

Good luck.
