Hi...haven't been around here in a while, have I? I've kinda let myself get away from the boards and MGs over the last little while. I'm getting back into it though.
Over the last while, my enthusiasm for cars and MGs has faded a bit. The pictures of the parts and cars didn't quite pique me like they used to, and work on either my MG or my S10 had me feeling a little bit "eh". (I know 'eh' isn't a noun, but it seems to describe how I felt anyway.)
About a month ago, I broke down and ordered up a copy of 'An MG is Born', and pretty much forgot about it a week later. Two days ago, it arrived and I popped it into the DVD player. I ended up glued to the TV for all 10 episodes in a marathon, watching it go from a rusty gold '73 to a silver shining example of a B. It brought the motivation and interest back, as I saw in action how fun it is to work on MGs and drive them. Among other things, it showed to me what my B could become with some work.
First stop is to do some rust repair. The two spots I've found rust are the floorboards, and a spot in the engine bay under the MC. The PO replaced the MC about a year before I bought it, due to leaks. The brake fluid ate the paint, and the area subsequently started to corrode. I'm going to tackle the interior first and fix it up, as the engine bay is a bit more demanding of a project.
The plan is to pull the interior pieces, strip the inside of the tub and lay on some coatings of Rust Bullet; ironically, the color of the automotive grade matches my B's silver fairly closely, so I doubt a top coat will be necessary. A new black carpet kit is on it's way too; it'll look like new money when it's done. I don't think I'll be doing red leather anytime soon. Bit too rich for me at the moment. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
Without putting the cart too far in front of the horse, the next plan will be to revamp the engine bay. It's in a pretty sad looking state; definitely needs some cleaning, painting and cosmetic work. That's for another time though. I'm back in the game now.
