Hi guys,
The garage has been so cold lately, that I've been doing nothing but looking through catalogs and buying parts.I have some bumpers, emblems and other assorted things, where the chrome isn't looking so good.Do you guys think I should have them rechromed or buy new from vendors? Also, does anyone know of a good plateing shop to send these idems?
Thanks for your help,

Bobby R

bobby,
I have an NOS front badge and Austin Healey script, both from a 3000 Mk II. If you show me some documented prices I'll beat it by alot. I can send photos if interested.

hi ralph from ny rockland co if you can afford it rechroming is better if your parts are original ,most of the parts out there are crap and don't fit if you want to talk im me at rccpl1@yahoo.com

I have had several original parts rechromed and am very pleased with the results. It is pricy, but the reproduction parts are not very good. FWIW I would go with the rechroming.

I have had the large pieces rechromed. Like the bumpers, windshield surrounds, cockpit surrounds (bj7), grill surrounds and eyebrows, hood grills and eyebrows. I have had good luck with new small parts such as windscreen squirters, door catches (bn7), trunk lock & handle, interior door handles. Don't have a referral though as my guy is retired. Prices are all over the map though. The final result relies very heavily upon the removal of the old chrome and the metal prep.

If you have any friends who are into Harleys, they usually have a good chrome shop. I would only give them one piece to see how it comes out before I would trust him with everything.

My last chroming experience was a nightmare.. I had to file a police report for theft to get my 100 grill surround back...low and behold when I got it, 7 months later it was perfect.

Gents:

I sell the chrome parts and HATE to do so /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif ! As someone said some of it IS OK but one needs someone like me that knows what is and what is NOT good.

BobbyR you are quite lucky in that Paul's Chrome is just west of you in Evans City, PA.
They HAVE Healey experience.

For cloisoone work, Emblem Magic !! The very FIRST "What our Customers say..." line is from a BJ-8 Owner!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

I bought replacement bumpers. They are significantly thinner and weaker. I recommend rechroming old bumpers if you have used ones that aren't significantly corroded.
