Hey guys

While dad is out of town, and my motor is in an area of the shop I cant get to with cars in the way, I decided to tackle the fender that needed changing.

I have a perfectly good chrome bumper GT fender, and it seems like it would fit with the exception of the front bottom corner.

Do I just cut the piece between what was the turn signal hole and the bottom of the fender? or is there more work involved?

also - will bumpers from a RB roadster fit a RB GT?
 
Fenders are different between roadster and GT. The GT has a fixed windscreen frame, and the roadster is removable. The front 3/4 of the fender is the same, just the rear is not interchangable.

Fenders are also not interchangable between CB and RB cars unless you plan to change bumpers and lots of other stuff.
 
I figured the fenders werent interchangable between roadster and GT, they seemed different close to the door. I was just curious about whether the rubber bumpers could be interchanged.

So even if I clipped the metal below what would have been the turn sig indicator on the CB fender, it wouldnt work? Bummer.

Does anyone have a passenger side RB GT fender?? LOL
 
Hmmm, almost anything is fixable if you find the right body guy.
 
The headlamp area should be the same, if that's what you're after. The turn indicator area is a bit different but I don't know exactly how, as I've never owned a RB car.
 
I believe Tony has taken the front of a RB roadster fender and welded it to the rear of a GT fender to make one. Not a project for the faint of heart but doable. The Roadster Bumper should fit
 
Attached is a picture of the RB GT fender at the front, and the floowing post will be the chrome bumper GT fender.

Im wondering if I cant just plasma cut the bottom of the turn sig mount to make it match the original RB GT fender.

Or are there different mounting points that I am not seeing to be different?

I appreciate all of your help guys!

Hard to tell from those shots, Howard. It'd be a bit easier to tell if the bumper was removed from the car. However, it does appear at first glance like the potential replacement fender might work. The valence mounting might be slightly different between the two fenders, but it's difficult to say with the bumper in the way.

If you're planning to mod the turnd signal area to make it work, then the valence mount points shouldn't matter too much if they turn out to be different. The only concern then becomes whether or not the mount points under the hood are the same. The only way to know that for sure is to break out the tape measure.

chuck's correct..what I did to make a rubber bumper GT fender was take a rubber bumper roadster fender, cut the area where the windshield went through it off (from trim line to edge of hood opening)....then I took a chrome bumper GT fender & cut the rear piece of it that's different than a roadster fender (from trim line to edge of hood opening)...finally, I welded the chrome bumper GT fender piece onto the rubber bumper roadster fender & had a perfectly good rubber bumper GT fender......oh, before I would do any welding, I would bolt both pieces up to the GT body so everything is tacked together properly.

& Zack - I'd toss that rubber bumper fender...there's more damage than its worth fixing.

I lived in Lafayette and then Breaux Bridge for almost twenty (20) years. I drove a 74-1/2 BGT (Tundra) every day for about eight of those years. I also built a V6 engined GT, https://www.mgcars.org.uk/v8_conversions/BuickV6/buickv6.html I wonder what happened to it...?

If it gives you any inspiration, and an effort to keep on topic, the left front fender of my Healey is five (5) pieces welded together. I fondly think of it as a quilt /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif
 
Zack - stand a CB fender & a RB fender side-by-side & look at the differences around the parking light area.....if you can match them, you've got a plan...for me, it was easier to do the work on the rear.
