Ray has been hiding something from us!

Thanks Paul. I finally got around to posting the photos taken over the last year and a half. I intend to add progress shots weekly (assuming of course that there is any progress).

This car was produced a few days before yours in January 1959 then shipped to Yokohama, Japan. It was then in Huntsville, Alabama from the mid 60s until 1973 when it was purchased by a guy was about to move to Knoxville, Tennessee. Shortly after the move he built a six car garage, put the Bugeye in the far back corner and started some disassembly then got sidetracked. In about 1978 he started the restoration anew buying lots of NOS stuff and rebuilt the original transmission and carbs. Then he decided that Crosley were his thing. Over the next 15 years he restore several of them but never got back around to the Bugeye.

The original engine was rebuilt some time in the early 70s by Howard's Machine Shop in Huntsville. They were at the time a NASCAR engine builder and sponsor. I don't know the extent of the re-build yet but I do know that the pistons are 30 over. I intend to install a good working order 1275cc engine and ribbed case transmission temporarily so I can get some driving pleasure this summer. This winter I'll get the original engine refreshed. I may do a stage 3 or 4 special tuning on the engine since the pistons are already modified.

I eventual intent is to have this car completely back to original visually. In the short term I'm going to install the black interior from the old Whitephrog (totaled by a collision to its rear) but I'll have a proper Cherry Red interior by next spring.
