TR2/3/3A Rattle

I have a loud rattle in the stick shift on hard exceleration. It's not in the transmission and it stops if I apply a little pressure to the stick.
Anyone have this, and is there an easy fix.

My car is now officially a "Daily driver" I drove it all weekend and to work this morning.

Might need a bushing kit on shifter, shouldn't have to hold it. Can be done from inside car.

Good news about a daily driver; these cars can be blast and they are reliable once you get the hang of it. There is a an anti-rattle spring thingie-- look in the Moss book--- and also an upgraded version where you put a piece of over-sized heater hose down on the shaft to stop the linkage cup from rattling, but you think it is something else? That might be a chipped tooth, but that should rattle all the time, but maybe something like that if you can make it go away, but again--- look into the anti-rattle deal those noises can travel in a weird way.

It would be really tight because of the long bolt, but maybe doable with just the shifting boot off, but fiddle, but again a definite maybe.

Hey Steve it should not be a problem getting the bolt out. Sometimes the main cup is really stuck, but having the tranny in might help you get it some leverage, hard to say. I took a picture because I am down chasing the bollweevils out of the carpet and had the carpet out.

And some can be really really stuck. I needed a straight gear lever for My TR3A ( it came with the bent one) and a friend gave me a top casting with the gear lever attached. Said he needed the top casting back.
I removed the long bolt and the bolt holding the cap to the casting. Then sprayed some penetrating oil on the cap and left it over night. In the morning I tapped and tapped then used a punch and banged to no avail. I heated the thing up. I douched it in penetrating oil and left it.
It finally came off but it took several days of working it. Lots of corrosion in between the cap and casting.

While you're at it, replace the anti-rattle plunger and spring.
