Ratco cable linkage - diagnostics

I think I have left the impression I have a problem with Tony's
very fine Ratco cable throttle linkage. If I have,
that is a blunder on my part. Tony's product is excellent
and a great addition to my bucket of bolts TR6.

I am calling it the "Ratco" project for lack of a better
heading.

Yes, my warm engine idle is higher than normal after
installing the Ratco.

But I think some other process is at work causing this condition.
And as I stated, a 1200 RPM idle bothers me very little.

So I intend to fully sort out my gas pedal to carb linkage
and try to determine the cause of the 1200 warm idle.

Any suggestions are welcome. I'll start at the gas pedal itself.

Tony! If I left the impression I was not satisfied with
your roduct, I am sorry. Your cable throttle linkage is
awesomely responsive.

I'll report findinds as they occur.

90% SUCCESS!! 1200 RPM warm idle reduced to 900 RPM.

Taking the advice of several "real" Triumph experts,
I started system diagnostics at my gas ped and worked
forward toward the carbs.

Truthfully, it seemed a waste of effort since my entire
gas pedal to carbs is brand spanking new.

1. Gas pedal A-ok, returns instantly.
2. I lubricated my brand new throttle shaft bushings
and gas pedal still returned instantly.
3. I lubricated the Ratco cable mount- gas pedal returned instantly
4. I lubricated the new carb coupling- gas pedal returned instantly.
5. I checked carb choke cables- both appeared functional

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

1. Cold engine started on 1st crank, 1/2 choke, standing outside the car.

2. Car warmed to 160*F, idle at 700-800 rpm

3. I goosed the gas pedal- warm idle settled in at 1200 RPM.

4. Huuummm?

5. I disconnected the new Jeff Palya carb linkage.

6. Idle dropped to 800 rpm.

7, Reconnected carb linkage - warm idle shot to 1200 RPM

8. AH Ha- the culprit has been found!

9. Removed the carb linkage once again but this time,
I used two 1/4" sockets to tighten the four bolts and backed
the carb throttle shafts into neutral when the carb linkage
bolt threads slightly moved the carb throttle shafts forward
as they turned.

I can certainly live with 900 rpm idle and I love the response of the Ratco system.

ANOTHER small worry put to bed.

dang- I'll miss all the Ratco post now.
Good job mate

Congratulations.

If I read this correctly you have just synchronized you carb throttle shafts and adjusted the idle in the proper manner.

900 RPM is fine for any stock TR6.

Leave it alone. Do not start with the vacuum gauges now that this is over.

Get in car and take Wendy for a longgggggggggggg ride, followed by a stop at your favorite biker bar for a few cold ones.

May the sticking idle issue rest in peace..............forever..............

...and ever. Amen.

I chime in my prayer of thanks and wishing you, Dale, (and all other
Forum members), a very Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Happy cruising, Dale.
