Anybody ever wonder if there was a way to fit an EMD 710 engine in a spitfire? Would need suspension work of course but just a thought. Chances are I'm just crazy.

You could probably mount Spitfire fenders on the sides, and call it a Spitfire ...

The 710 was also used in tugboats and such. Turbocharged V12 diesel, each <span style="font-weight: bold">cylinder </span>displaces 710 ci. I couldn't find a good photo of a 710, so here's a shot of its "little" brother, the EMD 645:

you could save a bit of weight by eliminating the transmission and hooking it up directly to the diff. It should have enough torque to get it moving!

The only problem I see is where to put that gigantic battery with enough cranking amps to start the engine; other than that, no problem

Is it a V12, or an I12? If the latter, it might have less point deductions in a concours show....

My mistake, turns out the EMD710 series is available in either V8, V12, V16 or V20 configurations. But no I12.

The photo above is apparently of the V20 version.
