For whatever reason, my pea-brane just reacquainted me with an incident:

Driving the Elan home one eve, I was plugged from behind by a stop-sign ignoring Caddy driver. Low speed but enough to ruin the bumper, boot lid and rumple the fuel tank. Guy was a jerk, but his insurance rep was worse. When the estimates were all in, he phoned me to tell me where to have it done... "no, it goes to the dealership." sez me.

He gets all up-in-my-face and says: "If it's that rare, you should have it parked in a cave in storage!"

All I could think to reply was: "I bet you're bald and drive a BUICK!"

...he audibly splutter'd 'n snorted... But th' Lotus went to the dealership (where I incidentally worked  ) for replacement bootlid, bumper and tank.

Th' human mind is an odd bit o' goo, innit?

It's not the mind that's odd, Doc. It's the ego.

It's the combination that makes it bad man. Take glycerin, fine by itself. Add a bit of nitro thou an look out.

For that matter, what's wrong with Buicks? My grandfather had one (oh, he was a country doctor, and I think owning a Buick was a prerequisite for being a general practitioner back then)!

I had a guy purposely hit me in the Midget w/ a Buick (after he ran me off the road). Just a light tap on the RB. Took everything I had to keep from pulling him out the window of his car. I past his house the other day and it's been torn down. Apparently the old grump is dead. Still makes me mad !!!!!

Nothin' wrong with bald... NOW.

As fer th' Buick, they ALWAYS seem'd to be piloted primarily by bureaucrats to me.

...and YES, Pat, Don, that AARP bunch keep sendin' me junk mail. *sheesh*

AARP - Association of Automobile Restoration Professionals? :driving:

Makes me glad I got rid of both of my Buicks...my first car was a '52 Special Sedan I inherited from Grandpa, and the second was a '78 Regal 6-cylinder with factory Hurst 4-speed and upgraded suspension. I actually liked that car a lot, but it was hit when parked 3 times.

Come to think of it, my very first car was a '57 Buick Roadmonster with the slip-a-flow transmission...what a tank...that cured me from ever owning another Buick...my second car was a '62 TR4. :driving:

Boy, that's rare !

I remember a quote in Car and Driver many moons ago involving some sort of driving transgression. The writer referred to a "Cow Buick" Seems to fit... A buddy of mine bought a Norton Commando in DC. Instead of riding an untried old brit bike home, he borrowed a trailer, car and driver.(Wanted to be SAFE you know!!) Going around DuPont circle, the trailer was hit, and overturned, destroying the Norton(Frame bent...). The culprit?? Buick, most likely with a bureaucrat given it was in DC. You would think a yellow Norton, up at eye level on a trailer might be hard to miss..... Evidently not.

could be worse- you could be collecting randomization's...

It's just a BUICK thang.

Now we get 'em built in China, right?!?

...or is that jus' a popular misconception.

Didn't Buick get cut?
Buick did not get cut (they are a huge brand in China). Some Buicks are made in China for local consumption, but to the best of my knowledge they are not (yet) imported back here.

And don't forget, Buick gave us the Dauntless V6 (used in Jeeps in the 60s) and the Rover V8. So they're not all bad.

My grandfather had a '48 Buick Roadmaster, what a great car! I'd give me eye teeth to have it now. He always kept it very clean and shiny, took great pride in it. I have a photo of his standing beside it, priceless.

That thing musta weighed at least 5,000 lbs. Huge, lumbering car, you could easily fit six passengers in it.

Gas mileage was probably more like gas footage. But when gas was .25 a gallon, who cared???
