Random Poll[ we must admit we are pretty eclectic]

Re: Random Poll[ we must admit we are pretty eclec

Well- this gave me alot of very interesting info..........I now know I'm a criminal in half of our great nation, many of us are in complete agreement with the status of this activity, and I'm a seriously disturbed individual. I'm afraid I actually knew this to be a fact, but suppressed acknowledging it because treatment is probably expensive and fruitless. I surrender to the verdict. My one remaining question is to those of you who particpate with store bought (not home made or munitions) Did our current economy affect the amount that you spent or change the type of products you bought or usually buy?

I don't support nor condone fireworks. I loved them as a kid and used "safe" fireworks as recently as the late 90's. I do still enjoy the idea of them but have little faith in the ability of my neighbors to use them safely.

not illegal here but I do believe they are limited to the amount of powder in them for public use.

Not legal here in NJ, but at our summer, ~Lake House Community~ , lots of folks shoot them off so that they land in the lake. Although not legal, it seems pretty safe. Sometimes, if lake is frozen (it's *almost* frozen right now), they go out on the ice and shoot them off. The local authorities seem to look the other way. Our town mayor used to be one of the biggest offenders.

We have a good number of legal, town fireworks displays in NJ that are run by professionals, so you can easily see them if you want. We can see some amazing displays in Morristown (4 miles from our condo). We are about 20 miles (by train) from NYC.....The NY City Harbor fireworks are stupendous, but it makes for a long night, and we don't stay up that late any more.

One of the weirdest laws is in eastern Pennsylvania (20 miles from where our summer house is in western NJ). In certain Pennsylvania counties, it is legal to *buy* them, but not *use* them. So people from NJ (where it illegal for non-professionals to *posess* or *use* them) cross into Pennsylvania and buy them and bring them back into NJ to use illegally.
Some of the roadside fireworks sales places (huge tents) are easily seem from the NJ side. You always see lots of NJ cars in the parking lot. I have heard that sometimes, the NJ State Police sit by the border and watch folks leave the fireworks sales place, then pull them over.

When I was a little kid living in Toronto (maybe 7 or 8 years olds), I used to go to the store a buy fairly big fireworks myself and set them off on the sidewalk outside the store. I remember it was no big deal and adults would consider this stuff just childish amusement. Once in a while, someone would warn you to be careful with the matches but that was about it.
As I think back, it was crazy that they let us do that. I never let any of my kids near fireworks until they were at least mid-teens and supervised by me.

Fireworks are illegal in the city, but can be sold in the county during certain times of the year (week before New Years and 4th of July). Several counties around sell them yearound. Most of the cops around here look a blind eye if someone is shooting them off unless someone complains then they just tell them to stop. I love fireworks!!! We go to my parents house with 3 acres and a lake and shoot some off every New Years eve. It's a blast (pun intended).
