Ram Pipes & air filters

Hello forum members.

I've just signed up for the forum today, (i've been on and off the Healey team.net list for the last seven years)

I see the instruction is don't be a lurker so here's my first post.

I like the look of the Cape Sport Ram pipes and just ordered a couple. I imagine the benefits are mostly cosmetic or maybe I increase my bhp by 1. Anyway, the type I ordered come with a mesh already fitted over the end of the pipe.

Is this enough of a filter for normal driving conditions or am I running a risk of getting very small airbourne particulates messing up my carbs?

thanks /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/england.gif

Hi Derek, If the environment you drive in is heavly laden with dust, then the engine is going to suffer more than the carbs. The ram pipes do not portend to provide adequate filtering of airborne contaminants that can be ingested into the engine. Some performance increase has been claimed, but I can not vouch for that having never tried them.-FWIW---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/patriot.gif

Welcome
I have similar ram pipes installed, I have not given any consideration to the possibility of dust getting in, but I suppose that it is possible. My first Healey, some 30 years ago, had an engine rebuild and ram pipes were on that and it did not seem to suffer. As I do not intend driving through the dessert I think that I will be fine, but only time will tell.
