Attendance dropping at your local rally? Fewer cars showing up at your weekend Cars and Coffee? Add something extra! (Personally I doubt I'd follow an idea from a guy named Jerker ...)

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - The Church of Sweden will carry out drive-in weddings lasting about seven minutes at a car rally next month in a bid to make marriage more accessible, it said on Thursday.

Undaunted by soaring fuel prices, 36 couples have applied to get married at a gathering of auto enthusiasts in Vasteras in central Sweden, said priest Jerker Asterlund, the scheme's initiator.

"Weddings are getting more and more commercialized and that is not something we have any interest in. We would like to make things simpler and more down to earth when people take the plunge and get married," he told Reuters.

"This is not just for fun, but also a way for the Church of Sweden to show we can take part in celebration and happiness and not just in crisis and catastrophes," he said.

The wedding ceremonies will be carried by 10 priests alongside the focal point of the auto gathering, a motorcade of 1950s and 1960s cars.

A gospel choir and a priest singing Elvis tunes will provide the soundtrack to the festivities, Asterlund said.

"We have added a bit of a Las Vegas touch to it and put up a huge red, neon sign which reads 'Get Married' so one can see it from afar and know where to turn off."

Can they do seven minute drive in divorces too; just to complete the circle as it were...

Do they take trade-ins?

Willing to trade older, high-mileage model for newer, less troublesome, sportier version of same (That hopefully runs quieter and purrs)! :jester:

Couple years ago, my parish bought the property behind us - parking lot and a drive-through for the bank that was next door. We're using the parking lot, and renting the drive-through to another bank.

But, some of us thought it would make a great drive-through confessional.

Or another thought was "McCommunion"...

"You deserve a break today..."

Unfortunately trading in an older model means that you have to keep paying the maintenance costs for it's upkeep. The engine usually runs fine but the body work costs a fortune!

The younger models look really good and run great, but most of your friends will want to take it for a test drive. Plus, the only real way to keep it from getting stolen is to lock it in the garage, and that will get you in trouble... :jester:

So you're saying that you need to do exotic rental then?

After all they are depreciating assets...

Exotic rentals are very expensive and not worth the trouble. You think you know how to drive it and then it makes a fool out of you, usually in public. Plus, anyone that sees you with it usually can tell that you're out of your league, most likely renting, and are not the real owner...

Also, what happens if your current model finds out about the rental?

Then you are back to trading the current one in for another model - but at least you got to try the exotic for a little while.

Apart from the fees, you are no worse off as far as I can see.

Worse case, you are back to square one but with less to lose on the tradein.
Best case, you trade the current for the exotic and then find that the exotic is super low maintenance.

> Don't forget to stop by the swap meet!

THAT would much less expensive and far more fun than my experience in divorce court!

"Gimme your best offer; I'll do a bath and wax job on 'er for ya."
