Radiator shroud

Help needed please. 62 tricarb- Removed radiator to clean, paint and flush. 2 questions. What is a decent paint to use that will hold up and not restrict airflow? Do I need a special Radiator paint sold at Eastwood? 2nd question- The car never had the shroud attached to the radiator. (The red piece I see in other Healeys). I ordered the shroud but my radiator has no mounts. They seem to have at some point broke off and the shroud was never replaced. How exactly does this shroud get attached to the top tank of the radiator? Do I dare JB Weld 3 studs to the tank. I would like to know the original setup. Thanks

Hello Pete,

The radiator shop I use, tell me they use ordinary Ace Hardware, spray can paint. The important thing is to put as little black paint on the fins as possible. Just enough to make them black. A light dusting sort of.

I believe the shroud gets welded/soldered in place. Others may chime in and confirm or say other wise.

Good luck!
Roger

Have your rad shop solder the shroud on, it'll be very cheap work and that's the way it was done at the factory.

Hi,while you are working on the radiator, you may want to add an overflow tank to your system.I usually see them mounted in the open area above the brake booster, available from your local parts store, run your overflow hose to it, and no more puking radiator when you shut down after a good drive.your system can recover better and no mess.the shroud should be painted red,fan yellow.

Others will have there opinion but I have found that once it overflows it will not do so again unless you fill too much. It should be about an inch or more below the bottom of the filler hole. It will find the place it likes and stay there. Important to have the proper rad cap! British Car Specialist in Stockton CA.has the right pressure and length required. Water wetter reduces the temps and reduce the over flow too.

Here (Sacramento, California area) the temps can get to 105 degrees F.or more in the summer. I'm not sure what you guys in the UK experience but it helps here.
