Hi,

Any experience or preference with radiator paint? This is for a 66 TR4A. I don't plan to pull the rad but want to touch up some spots for protection. So, brush-on would be the preferred method.

Would a normal Rustoleum withstand the temperature or do I need to consider a black engine paint? Also, any thoughts on which finish would be original and or provide the best heat transfer (i.e. flat, semi or gloss).

I would consider using Eastwood's paints specifically for radiators:
Item #10040 Z (gloss) & #10340 Z (satin)
 
Radiator paint is special because it leaves a very thin coating that doesn't interfere with cooling. I used Eastwood spray on my 4A.
 
BTW, concerning the temperature rating of the paint... there is virtually no reason to use a high temperature paint on any engine component, including a radiator. As long as there is coolant, the temperature is not going to exceed about 220oF... right at boil over. If the radiator or engine component gets hotter than that, you've got more serious problems to worry about than what happens to the paint.

I would agree on the temp issue. My own feeling is that any normal paint should be fine up to 225 degrees, including Rustoleum.

I'll consider the Eastwood Rad Black paints. Again, I just need to do some touch up in-place. Perhaps I can spray it in a can and still spot apply with a brush.

Any thoughts on the satin vs. gloss finish though?
