Kinda think I know the answer to this one just need a confirmation. I'm not quite sure where the clip goes, but it looks like it slips in between the fins and radiator exterior side. Does it go at the bottom of the rad or somewhere in the middle?

It'll be a big THANKS from Tinkerman for the answer!

Dick - I don't even have a clip, so I'm no help at all! But on mine, the hose runs from the filler neck down along the rad's right-hand (passenger) side; hose is about two feet long. No clip at all - just hangs loose.

I checked my factory manual, repair manuals, owner's handbook, etc. for pictures of the hose, but no luck. So I'm also looking forward to the answer.

If you aim it just right, when it overflows, it will hit the exhaust down pipe, releasing a cloud of steam.
You will then know that you must get moving before overheating occurs.

Possibly it's different for different commission numbers. On my TR3A, there was a hole in the inner fender that the clip went into.

I think I recall seeing the same hole on the TR3, but maybe not.

I ran the hose over the top of the radiator strut, down along side the radiator, and found a hole down by the radiator that was the same size as the hose, and stuffed it in there. It's probably all wrong, but that hole just seemed like a natural. :smile:

Down the RHS of the radiator (when you are seated in the TR), there is at least one (or maybe 2) hole(s) down the side frame of the radiator. There is (are) small spring clips which hold the hose (black rubber) to the side of the rad and the bottom end extends just below the bottom of the frame. These clips look like a "C" which forms about a 3/4 circle around the rubber hose and then both ends are folded outwards. So you place the clip around the hose, squeeze the clip and hose between your finger and thumb and fit the two open ends of the clip into the hole on the side frame of the rad. See the clip attached, but make one out of round wire and make the spring part round to fit around the hose.

It's very hard for a VTR or TRA judge to see anything down there so don't worry too much if you come up with something a bit different.

When I first got my TR3, a local club member came over to see it. He came over again shortly after I had the engine out and most of the car stripped. Of particular interest to him was "a very original piece" on the car. He was so excited about it, that I squeezed the clip, removed it from the holes as Randall described, and gave it to him. I can't say if it's in his car, but here's a picture of it prior to removal. The overflow hose fits inside this clip perfectly -but there was no overflow hose on the car when I got it.

My tr3 did not have a clip either, but last month I bought this really nice radiator from Andy M and it had a round tubular clip that was bolted to the end of the stabilizer rod. The hose just dropped down through it. The clip looked stock and I kinda just marveled at it. I have seen that clip you have shown before on tr3, Texas N. I think that there are three of them that hold the fuel line to the body up in the back section. I will use one on my present project along with the one I got from Andy and a take a picture. Anyway I always seem to learn something new about tr3s on this forum, how cool.
