GT6 radiator options for GT6 MK III

Greetings all,

I've been looking for a replacement aluminum core radiator for my GT6 rebuild.

I discovered the option of a Pontiac Fiero radiator via the spitfire & GT6 magazine online interchangeable parts page. I'm looking at a Xr4ti (12x29) radiator, but it is 10 inches wider than the Fiero option (15x19.5). Just how wide can I go in terms of a radiator that will still fit under the hood of a MK III?

Hi, I think it would be tight to get a 29" wide radiator in a GT6, you have to consider where you are going to position it and whether it will fit between the hood supports. The stock hood prop will probably not fit either. The pics below are from my modified MkIII GT6 with a 28" wide radiator.

Have you considered a VW MkII Golf radiator? I know they will fit the GT6, there is a thread about this on another Triumph based forum 205 & Golf Radiator dimensions??

Griffin Radiator makes an exact copy in aluminum with 40% more cooling capacity.
About $500.00. Just bought one for my mk3 an the fit is perfect. note: you have to tell them about the bung for the thermo-vacuum switch on top of the core.

many thanks for the quick replies and pictures. spitbang, what is the clearance for your radiator between the hood supports? this radiator I'm considering looks to be at least a little shorter than the one you have installed; and if I were to go an half an inch wider on each side than the one you have pictured, It might still work. BTW, what make of exhaust header are you using from the picture?

I will research the VW Golf Radiator and the griffin as well. This project is in the beginning stages, so there's no such thing as too much information or options.

I've just been out to reminde myself what the clearances are like and there really isn't much room. The hood supports/tubes are 26.5" apart, but I have mounted that radiator further back than you could on a stock GT6.
Reckon you could be better off with the shorter Golf radiator, though you will need a separate expansion tank for these more modern radiators. Below is a pic of a friends 2.5 GT6 with Golf radiator.

My headers came from a guy here in the UK called Gareth Thomas, not cheap, but certainly made well with significant performance gains.

I bought a wizard for $450
but I've read that you can make one fit from a Honda Civic(92-99)
search ebay for 3 row aluminum civic rad(pretty cheap)
takes some modification to make fit...

I just picked up a universal aluminum rad from Summit for my TR8 for $179. It took a little fabrication to make it work, but nothing drastic. The Summit site has a search feature that allows you to search by size. I needed a 26X16 and there were 9 to choose from. Maybe you can find something that will work for you. Here is a pic of the radiator mounted to the bottom rad support right before I put it in.
