Radiation

I spent 29 years as a highway construction inspector for the Ky DOT. One of my duties was the use of Nuclear Desity machines used to check compaction on earth work and blacktop.

A large part of the training for the machines was radiation safety procedures. One day after a full 8 hours of class room training the instructor concluded his presentation and asked if there were any questions. From the back of the room came a small voice "Just exactly what color is this radiation we're supposed to be looking for?" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif

It's green, right? All the movies I've seen have glowing green radiation. Don't tell me the movie industry messed this one up too? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Got an even better one for you. The inspector on one of our paving jobs was using a nuclear density meter which he thought was making him sick. ( Turns out it was blacktop fumes.) The resident engineer called our district office and asked what he needed to do, saying his inspector thought thought the meter had a radiation leak and was making him sick. The reply he got back. " Just put somebody else on it till we have a chance to check it out."

Believe me you don't have to make this stuff up. Truth is always stranger than fiction.
