Rad Header Tank Temp Sensor Orifice

What size nut fits the temp sensor orifice in the header tank? I want to install a Mallory temp gauge sensor in the header tank, but also retain the original temp gauge.

Aynone tried this? Can I assume that some of the early Healeys used the header tank orifice for a temp sensor?

Would like to hear from anyone who has installed a sensor in this position.

Hi Ray, Don't know the nut size used but yes some of the early cars had the temp sensor located in the header tank of the radiator.The block location is more representative of the cars runing temperature though.---Keoke

I will be utilizing the original Smith temp gauge, but would also like to hook up the new Mallory temp gauge as well. I have a Mallory volt gauge and a Mallory Vacuum gauge in the panel with the temp gauge. That is the reason for wanting to use the after market gauge in tandem. Any other suggestions as to where the new gauge can be hooked up?

I also utilized this fitting for a return line from my oil/coolant heat exchanger. I removed the sealing cap and bored it out to accept a 1/2" copper pipe which I pressed in and then silver soldered in place. I'd suggest you contact one of the gauge rebilders they may be able to give you the specification.

HI Ray, I assume the Mallory temp guage is electric so probably the only other point that is easily accessible would be the block's drain plug for the sensor location. Just thinking out loud.---Keoke
