Racing idle at stop lights

I'm at a loss here...Our MGB starts, idles properly and runs smoothly. THEN, when we reach a stop someplace, the idle won't drop below about 2000rpm. The only way to get it back to normal while at a stop is to hold the brake and ease the clutch out a little. Clutch back in and it idles properly until the next stop light. Carb linkage is not sticking and accelerator cable doesn't sppear to stick. We have an aftermarket electronic fuel pump putting out~theoretically~3psi but it never quits running. Any ideas here ?? Thanks.

Doubt it's the pump, Gar. Springs on the throttle shafts in the proper locations?

Forgot what you have as induction on Ellie. Can ya post a pic of the spring setup?

Well, I tried to get a quick picture or two without taking the carb filters off and had no real luck. I have HS4 SU's and one spring to the "choke" and two springs to the throttle linkage. It sometimes works just fine then, for several days, it'll do this high idle thing. Can't figure it out. This probably doesn't help you any with diagnostics...I'll get a good photo soon.

My Magnette does the same thing. The linkage between the two carbs is adjusted too tight. As the alloy manifold heats up, the linkage will start to bind between the carbs. Run more springs and/or adjust for more end float in the two center linkage assemblies, and don't be afraid to lubricate them with a little light grease. I still haven't fixed mine, but I have a solid throttle linkage so I can just flick the pedal up with my foot to get the idle back down.
