Good luck Scott

So yesterday I did a little maintenance on the Bugeye. The usual check engine oil, (ok) trans oil (ok) coolant (ok) master cylinder (ok). Snugged up the valve cover, checked the dashpots. Everything good. On a quick drive to my Dad's house about 5 miles away, I suddenly developed a loss of power, (engine ran, but pinged loudly if I tried to accelerate). The distributor cap seems OK. Plug wires are good, as are the plugs. I was able to limp home in a most "unspritely" manor. What is it? *only one guess per entry*

Guess(s):

1. See if one carb float is stuck closed (so that it's running on just one carb)...this could cause lean mis-fire and pinging (you can verify lean mixture by seeing if using the choke improves things....could also be stuck fuel filter or weak fuel pump).

2. Check distriutor cap (cross firing across contacts due to age or moisture).

3. Vacuum leak (Occasionally the manifold in my 1275 would work loose....you could shake it up and down while the engine was idling and the RPMs would change).

Thats one guess.....right? (whoops, got carried away)

When you checked the dashpots, you forgot to tighten one, it worked loose and the rest is history.

The "suddenly" should have been my biggest clue.

I checked the forward float bowl. 1/2 full. AHA! I started it up again and saw fuel dripping down from the bottom of the fuel pump. Looks like Aeronca65t's answer 1C was correct. Thanks to everyone for playing! (and helping)
