I have a question about installing the radiator in my 71 midget. Its been so many years since I took it out that I cannot remember something. The bolts that attach the radiator to the shroud, are they supposed to have any kind of sealant on them. Looking into the threaded bolt holes in the radiator, I can see the inner core and all. What seals this up? Just the bolts themselves? No sealing washer of any kind? Looking in my parts books, all it shows is a bolt and lockwasher that attaches the radiator to the shroud. Anybody done this lately?
 
I just did it, dry, the bolts (2 top, 2 bottom) stop short of the water filled core, IF they are the right bolts and washers.
 
OK, I guess the bolts just seal off the pressure and fluid. I have some removable thread locker that is good to over 300 degrees. I think I am going to put a dab on these bolts as I install them just in case. It should not hurt and might help a little.
 
Never mind, I'm a moron. I took another look at it and the threads are only into a pice of sheet metal across the top and bottom. I could look through and see core but it was outside core material :lol: The bolts do go in dry and I installed the radiator and fan. The fan was real fun, because I got a yellow plastic one instead of the old metal one for better cooling. Thanks for the replies folks. No , you haven't heard all my questions yet :lol: Thanks guys. I have just been piddling on my car as of late. This has been an 8 year project. I'm out of work right now with a bad knee and shoulder. Too cold in my basement to do much, I just hoble down there and sit and look and do little things. Put the Weber back on today. I havd an MRI on my knee tomorrow and then see the orhtopedic doc on tuesday. Hopefully he can see something /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif I need to get myself fixed up before the last big thing which is the bodywork. Its all bare metal right now.
