QUICK-Need Help w/ Interior Color Combos

Hey all,
So I've got a '64 BJ8. I believe the original exterior color was white. Now it's red over white. On Monday the shop will be ordering up new interior components and I'm trying to determine what color combo was original. Now, due to the holiday, I don't have time to order one of those concourse guides. What I want to do is go to a red interior, with the red seats and door panels. What I don't know is what color the dashpad and armrest were on original cars with red interiors. Can anyone tell me if they should be black? Also, should I go with black carpet kit as opposed to red? I kinda think I should because the contrast would be nice, and I believe this would be original combo. Any help please let me know ASAP.
One other question, on red door panels, what color would the padded door rails be? Red or Black.

THANKS,

Chris

Hey Chris,
I had a 66 BJ8 that had the Brit Heritage Trust Certificate and it was
originally white with red interior. Had red door panels with a red
dash top and red center console/armrest. Also had a black top. Not
sure about the padded door rails as the ones on this BJ8 were not
the original but replacement black. I am sure someone who has his copy
of Anderson and Moment's Healey book can look it up for you. I would
but not at home for the Christmas holiday. I know I have seen red door
rails and don't forget the bristleflex color either.
Good luck,
Mike

The arm rest and carpet should be red. I believe all the dash covers were black but I may be wrong on that. My 64 (phase 1) was ivory white with (Colorado)red interior but the PO changed the interior to black.

I just checked the pictures at www.austinhealey.com web sight and it does not show the dash top. I do remember many people discussing the padded top being the same as the seats. Don't forget the piping being a silverish gold on the seats. It is your car so you can be creative if you are not going for "gold".

True True. But I'd like to be close to original. We'll see if anyone else can weigh in. I just had some bad luck which has turned into good luck and the ins. co. is replacing my interior.

I am not a bj8 expert but here is what I think is correct. The dash top and door tops are black on all bj8's. The armrest is the same as the seats. There is a different piping for vinyl versus leather. I believe the carpet would be red and hood to be black.

Hey Chris,
On the ambla/vinyl interiors the piping was always silver - faded out to
the common gold you see on original interiors. On the BJ8's with
the optional leather interior, I believe the piping was always the
same color as the leather. But as many will suggest, go with what
you like. I redid another BJ8 several years ago and went with
black leather with red piping as on the BN4's and BN6's as well as
BT7's and BN7's. Not sure about BJ7's.
Regards,
Mike

I appreciate all your input. I've been slacking on this project and now it's all happening.
I suppose it's worth asking (yes, I should have searched), what are the opinions on the Victoria British vinyl kits??
