TR6 Question

Hello all,
I'm going to look at a 1973 Tr6. The seller indicated over the
phone that the gears in the pumpkin are suspect, something is
going on with it, he's not a mechanic. It is drive-able though.
He's asking 4300.00.
Any thoughts? Is that part of the tranny difficult and expensive
to correct?
Thanks.

Usually pumpkin means the differential, not the transmission.

It might just be the brackets that support the differential.
Putting it another way, if the front brackets have not already been reinforced, there's a good chance they need to be.

Not sure about your question...

But I know someone from Pa who should be living in your town

The pumpkin is indeed the differential. If the is "something wrong but it's drive-able" don't count on driving it for long. (I ran one dry once and destroyed the ring and pinion). You get some notice in the form of an audible whine before it goes. Not that big a job but you either need a replacement diff or rebuild of the existing one. Best to check the used parts guys to see what they are going for these days, and price the car accordingly. Good luck.

Just saw a TR6 differential on Craigslist outside of DC (Virginia side).

Seems too expensive though with this one on eBay for $245 plus shipping in NJ.

or this one for $350 plus shipping in PA.
