Are all backing plates and sodered on oil pump covers the same for A 40 948 engines??

I'm fairly certain that any 948 will have the same backplate - A35, A40, Sprite, Minor.

Is the oil pump cover really soldered on? ie not welded or brazed?

As I remember is is really sddered and is a real one with MOWAG stamped on it.

Our engine builder friend, guess whw, Hap says that on the rece engines they unsodder them and install with silacon only. That would certinaly allow for centering it properly without grinding on the pump.

Next week I think I will prob get the engine out and see what there is to see.

I did have one brazed on one time and it worked fine but with the gasket on the pump then another on the rear plate there is no way anything can leak if sealed properly.

Thanks again for the nice discussion and addistance Hap, always a pleasure.
