I found a couple of peices of steel that I think are spacers that look like they go on the front of the Rack attachment brackets. Is this correct?

Between the rack attachment (alum) peices and the square box peice they bolt in to.

If you refer to them as shims, they will fit much better....

Hmmm, okies, wondered about those. just could not remember for sure. Ok so we move the rack forward a quarter inch or what ever, so what, wonder why that is important.

They angle the rack to align with the column to prevent binding. IIRC the thicker one goes on the passenger side.

"We" want to move the passenger side of the rack forward so that the column angles properly toward the driver.

So... then... I'm wrong?

So then, they should be so the rack and the stearing column are at 90 degrees, correct?

That is how I remember it.

Excellent, anyone need a shim, seems I have two.

I will take it!

I actually asked this question about 3-4 months ago, and the general consensus was that there were no shims in between the rack crossbar and the rack brackets...but it looks like there are.

Again, Jack, if you have one extra, I will take it. Let me know what you want for it.

Thanks.

I want an address so I can send it. PM me please and I will get it on the way.

And it is all clean and painted to Miss Agathas standards, heh.

make sure there wasn't a reason for agatha to have another shim ... are they both the same thickness? ... don't have the exact thickness of mine but would be willing to guess around 1/8" ... not a very thin shim.

Not a prob, I have an extra rack as well, think that is where the extra came from. Yep they preaty thick.

sounds like you have the answer to the riddle ... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

So you need to snug up the column and then see how much shim should be needed before bolting the rack down?

Unless there is already a shim in place to reuse.
