Question: washers for header->manifold

Okay, moving right along. I've got a question about the washers for the nuts that hold the header to the head. The inner washers fit just fine, but the two on the outside don't have enough room due to the welds for the header.

Do I try and find a smaller washer? Grind down a bigger one? Do they need to be brass?

You could grind a bit off one side of the washer to make it fit. And grind the weld on the end of the headers a bit flatter too. I have done that before for the very same reason.

You may do the quick and easy way and use two lock washers stacked together- not really esthetically pleasing but it works fine.

A cut down washer,then a short piece of steel tubing, then washer plus bolt will work and look ok.

Ah just use a spilt lock washer on the outer ones and you'll be fine, in fact it wouldn't be a bad idea to use a spolit lock washer on the inner ones between the washer and nut as well to insure they don't loosen up.

I wound up picking up a couple washers and spent a minute or two with the Dremel to make them fit. Good to go.

I will go back and put in some split washers on all of them as well.
