I obviously have too much time on my hands at the present as can be seen by my postings today, however.

Just restored a spare axle, cleaned, painted outer end a nice black with primer first, polished bearing seat, etc.

Coated the axle in greese, now?

Idea, wrap in freezer wrap to keep air, O2, away and put it on the shelf. Do you supose freezer wrap is a good idea for long term storage. Hope I never need it but you never know, I've needed a spare axle before.

Not much left, most has been cleaned and put in plastic storage containers just incase I or someone else is in a hurt for a part.
 
I've used plastic wrap for that purpose before. Has worked well enough for me. I always wrap the spines in something soft (shop towel) too though.
 
Freezer wrap is usually not a good idea, especially in humid climates, because it's more likely to trap moisture inside than keep it out.

Unless you purge the packaging of water vapor and oxygen and then get a truly hermetic seal you will always get some moisture and oxygen transferring back in. They'll transfer slowly if the packaging is tight but that becomes a problem. Once it equilibrates, if you have rapid changes in temperature/humidity the moisture inside the packaging will condense and be trapped against the metal before it has a chance to evaporate into the environment. You'll get accelerated corrosion.

If you're going to seal parts into an air tight package it's better to wrap them in a breathable material along with a preservative (oil, grease, cosmoline, Boeshield T-9, Bullfrog, etc) and include a desiccant with it to absorb any moisture. Desiccants should also be replaced or recharged occasionally.

Oh gesh, guess who lives near the coast and where it is very humid. I thought I was going to protect stuff from the grease and still see what was in side.
 
Brown paper bag ripped open & rolled around the greased axle...let the grease even soak into the brown paper.
