I seem to remember pulling the front springs out of my Bugeye several times without a spring compresser. Jack under the a frame, then have kids set on front fenders and lower away with jack stands under the front end.

Anyone remember this?

Not sure if the Bugeye is similar to my Midget or not but I used pretty much the same method. I seated the bottle jack under the spring pan and then replaced two of the short spring pan bolts with long ones (3.5 inches I think). Then I lifted the car with that jack till I knew that I had the force of the spring and the weight of the car on that jack. Took out the other two short bolts and lowered the bottle jack allowing the two long bolts to guide the spring pan down. There is probably an easier way but it worked for me on both sides. Of course the entire car was up on jack stands before I started. The long bolts made me feel a little safer about the entire operation.

I just jack up the frame, undo the top trunion nuts, lower the A arm down as far as it will go and pull out the springs by hand.
There is no pressure on them if the A arms are pointing down.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif Had the car up on jack stands and used the floor jack under the outer end of A frame. Disconnected trunion, lowered A frame, etc. Worked like a charm! Done in an hour or so! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/square.gif
