Question Carbs, lack of progress

This is awful. I now have the most rebuilt carbs on the coast.

I no longer beleive that, as advertised, my fuel pump is 2 1/2 to 4 1/2 pounds pressure.

I will find an put a universial pressure regulator on it.

It must be the pump. Just blows fuel past the cork gaskets and even keeps the system preserised after shut down thus causing the continual leakage which slows down over time.

Don't know anyone with a fuel pressure guage or I would check that quickly.

Ok, question, what are folks useing for pressure regulators and who sells em. Lets not rob the bank pls. Cheep is good at this point.

Holley Pressure regulator: part #12-804
std finish: 1-4 psi range

Check the specs, but I think this is what you want.

Just checked, Summit has them for $25.

They are restrictors more than regulators. Fine for what they do. A true regulator would have 3 connections bleeding excess back to the tank and easily twice the price. As a test, a visegrips not quite closed will pinch the line and provide similar performance as the Holley/Purolator/Facet/ et.al. 2 line regulator.

Jack:

I have the cheap Summit one, but others have said that they prefer the more expensive Holley in another thread. They had also questioned the calibration on the cheap ones and further stated that are known to go south after some time.

Yep think summit has the best price. Thanks Trevor.

PETER, joy oh joy a way to test. Will do that as soon as it warms up a bit.

When I first bought my Midget it had a pump producing about 10 psi. I used one of these regulators for about a year before switching pumps. It did the trick.

Jack, Maybe you should consider buying a pump with less pressure, and ebay your existing unit. Might be cheaper in the long run.

Pat, heck I don't care what the price is. I just need to test my idea. Think Peter has the best idea so far, vice grips. Cut that flow way down. If it works I go for it.

Nothing available localy it seems, like off the shelf today.

Excessive pump pressure would normally cause the float valve to leak and flood the float chamber resulting in overflow out the vent tubes. Are you getting that? Unless the vent tubes are plugged, you shouldn't get any pressure buildup in the carbs (past the float valves).

Noop, vent tubes stay closed nicely.

Why heck the more pressure the tighter they close to a point anyway. I think my prob is the 4.5 pounds of pressure, the float valve handles it but the jets will not.

I think Marv has a point. If the float valves close, the bowl and jets are at atmospheric pressure. Right?

Sounds like a plan!

Right. The float valve have to close against the pressure so tend to leak with high pressure. It's possible to block the vents by using a plain washer instead of the scalloped one between the float bowl cove and the banjo (vent ) fitting. Then, nothing comes out the vent tubes and you could get a pressure buildup in the float bowls.

Vice grips on, still just a bit of seapage but understand this does not change the pressure really just the volumn. Seems to be working after a fasion, will continue to mess with it till it gets a bit later and I can fire it up and see.

Contect cement setting for passanger side rear wheel carpet.

Seem to just have a slight seepage over a bit of time now.

Passanger side rear arch carpet in, drivers side setting up.
Then all that is left is snap peices.

Well that dosn't work. Well a bit maybe but not well.
