Question about rear hood seal on a Sprite

I have this hood seal (the one near the firewall) from both Moss and VB. There is no way that either of them will fit. It looks like they are at least 1/8" too wide to slide into the channel they are supposed to fit into. Anyone else have this issue?
 
You have to pull on it to stretch and narrow it as you fit it into the channel. Once in the channel and released, it will re-expand, locking it in place.
