I have a 9 stud windscreen frame. I like it ... it's quirky.

However, I have a late style top that I'd like to use in the winter. The 9-stud top I use now is great in the summer ... vents well (esp with zip out rear window).

So I had a thought about making an adapter bar for the top of my windscreen. I've sketched out the clamping mechanism, but was wondering how wide and deep is the groove on the tradition bugeye windscreen frame? (the groove that retains the bar that is inside the top)

I was hoping someone could proved me those dimensions so that I could continue planning yet another project I may never get too. ;) so... no rush.
 
Mine measures:

38" straight b/t radii that make up the upper corners
11/32" gap b/t rubber and windscreen frame

by any chance did you measure the depth of the groove?
 
Just guessing but the groove can't be over 3/4 inch deep and the steel strip in the top is about 5/8 inch. Part of what makes it work, Trevor, is the fact that once the strip is rolled under to fit in the groove, it has a slight bend to the curvature of the windscreen and resist's unrolling.
Fill us in on your design attempt's Trevor? I'm curious.

I haven't finished the design, but it will rely on the short blunt stanchions.
