Question about British autos

Hello, everyone:

I'm Bob Dillier from Columbia, Maryland. More curious than an enthusiast of British cars. I've recently become hooked on "Midsomer Murders," a British TV import on our Biography cable channel. I've wondered about the unmarked police car Barnaby and his sergeant drive. To me it looks something like a Jag, but I'm not sure. Also, is it the same type of car Barnaby and Troy drove in earlier seasons? And one last question: What model and make are the marked police cars? Thanks in advance for your help.

It's been a while since I have seen any episodes but I think it was a Jaguar MkII. Inspector Morse also drove one but I remember Barnaby driving one as well as being an eccentric about music. I don't remember the marked cars but chances are they were either Rovers, Vauxhalls or Fords.

The car driven by Barnaby is a newish Jaguar model, not the same as Morse's mark 2.All the other cars are indeed a mixture of Rovers,Vauxhalls, fords and some others.

Firstly, welcome to the forum!!

I've not seen the show at all. I usually avoid British TV cop shows, for obvious reasons /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Most realistic one I ever saw was "Rosie"......any of my fellow ex-pats remember that one? In actual fact I think that the "Touch of Frost" was pretty close to the mark. The Inspector Morse series was very annoying for me, I only watched an episode or two and that was it......

Welcome - good trivia question...you may be needed in "The Pub" from time to time to keep us clicking!

The 9th series marks a change of car for Barnaby. Previously seen at the wheel of a Rover, problems at the car company mean he now drives a Jaguar X-Type.

I remember the Rover, not sure that the Jag episodes have made it to NZ yet. This does remind me though of John Nettles (inspector Barnaby from Midsummer..) first TV car. He used to drive around Jersey in a Triumph Roadster whilst playing another TV detective Bergerac. Do we get points for useless info in this forum?

Sure, you get points for all kind of things here. I give you a six. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif
I remember Bergerac,it was quite good too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gifThose Triumph roadsters are pretty neat.
