Quarter light glass removal

It seems like this came up recently but I don't find the post. I need to remove the glass from the wing window on my BJ7. Do I drill out what look like rivets on the bottom to take out the locking handle then slide out the glass? Any tricks to this?

I recently took mine apart to send it out to be re-chromed. I didn't need to drill out any rivets to get mine out just a lot of patience. I believe I did spray some WD40 or PB Blaster around where the glass goes into the rubber and like with everything else let it set for a little while.

I am so happy that I asked. I was convinced late last night that I had to drill. Thanks PeterB. I'll soak it for a couple of days then use a razor on the rubber.

Are you satisfied with the chrome work? Who did you use? Cost?

The chrome work can out very nice. I used Red's Parts Attic in TX. I contacted several companies before my decision. Joe the owner was great to deal with, he kept in constant contact about want was needed to be done and when they would be ready. His communication is excellent. I did send a part back to be redone because of a defect and he was great about it. I feel we all make mistakes but its how you correct them that sets you apart. Chroming is not cheap. His prices were right in line with the other quotes I got. He did have to take out those rivets you were mentioning to chrome them. They can be purchased at British Car Specialist in CA. Each whole vent window runs about $400 to $450 depending on work needed. I had a crack in the driver's side outer frame that need to be repaired and that came out great.

Oh my. Sticker shock! I'm glad that you told me. It would have been embarrassing to faint right there in the chrome shop office.

I had two interior door opener handles done for my BJ8 .
they were original handles and the chrome was pitted etc .
250$ CAN later they are perfect . I had a boot lid luggage rack done as well I think that was in the region of 750$ CAN ,
Smiley mouth surround and lip was at least 1K CAN
Rechroming is expensive but its way way better than buying the repro junk the suppliers sell .

I was able to pull the glass out. soak it, carefully carve out rubber, work it free. One came out in 3 min, the other 45 min.

I am rethinking the rechrome. Large parts, yes rechrome. Smaller parts maybe not. We'll see what the est. come in at.

Thanks guys!
