It's quite a few years since we've driven our BE as we'd installed a rebuilt Datsun 5 speed in it, and found that the tranny (maybe the differential?) would lock up and freeze the rear wheels when shifting gears. I heard a comment once (way in the past) that this not an unknown happening in the Datsun world.
The engine/tranny have been lying in the back of the garage for way too many years now and I'd like to resolve the issue.
We took the transmission back to the shop that had installed the rebuild kit and they tore it down and couldn't find any issues, and the limited distance we put on it hadn't produced any wear marks (we have not reinstalled it since). Anyone got knowledge?
And anyone got advice as to how to test the thing? I figure we'll pull the diff et al this summer and look for any problems there, and got wondering about getting a couple of large diameter electric drill chucks and adaptors etc. so as to spin the drive-shaft and the input shaft as desired, and play with the shift lever while everything is spinning, but there woild be no load on the transmission that might move shafts etc. around. Thanks, Doug
