Since I'm an old pro at this. Brian's pump on his Midget is shot. Dahubby's going to be fishing by the time the pump comes in, back Saturday. Car needs to be done before our Fall Colors Rally on Sunday.

I don't suppose switching out a Midget water pump is any harder than a B, right? Especially since he's putting new hoses on too and I know exactly where the gasket sealer is now!!!

Oh boy, go for it Jaybird. Not a big deal as you know.

I figure I can beat my best time of 3 evenings too! Considering I can HACK off those old hoses this time and I hid one tube of gasket sealer in with MY stuff!!

Have you ever pulled a Midget radiator?

Not yet.

But I can.

It's a '75. I've changed the water pump on my '75 B, without any 'man' breathing down my neck telling me how to do it (other than the help I got from the forum)

Tony. Hmmmm. I must be slow tonight, I didn't jump on your post right away.

What kind of a question was that? If ya know something, why wouldn't you just tell me or offer advice instead?

Will be plenty of room for my little hands once I pull the rad.

Nothing unusual about removing the radiator, Janel - except that its completely different from your B...its a cross-flow radiator & you have to remove the shroud first...& there are several bolts that are hard to find (& even harder to get to) - 4 set screws on top & bolts behind the rubber grommets in the rad bracket (as I remember, you'll need about a 12" extension for your ratchet)...oh, don't cut those hoses until you figure out whether or not you bought the correct replacement hoses...some 1500's used one type hose (older), others used a different type.
Not one of those things to leave until last minute - definitely not one of those things to do on a rushed schedule.

But, you can do it, I'm sure.

You're catching on Barnhill. You're right, I can do it. Got a variety of socket extensions, no problem there. Got little hands and arms, no problem there. I won't cut the hoses if I can get them off easily enough, or until I'm certain the replacement hoses are the correct ones. With a Haynes and a Bentley, I'm good to go. Besides, is Brian's car, I'll prolly just 'direct and supervise.' You know, breathe down his neck telling him how to do it right!

Parts come in Wednesday. Have 3 evenings and all day Saturday if need be. No rush job.

You could go ahead & start pulling the radiator before parts get there...I can pull an MGB radiator in less than a half hour - not so with a Midget rad....just don't expect it to pop right off...some of those bolts/screws probably need a couple shots of PB Blaster to come loose.

Don't we have to go through the grill to get to a few of those bolts?

Brian ran hot once coming back from Memphis. Ran hot yesterday on his way here to take a drive with a few of us. Let it set awhile, took off again, ran hot, puked a bit, he limped the car home. Switched put a new 185 thermostat in yesterday, took it out for 30 minutes, ran fine. He's just anal enough to insist on changing the water pump now. I mentioned not to do it until it was absolutely necessary...
