Purring like a kitten!

My B was sounding like a small diesel engine... clacking, tapping, or whatever you choose to call it. I adjusted all the valve clearances to factory specs today and she's purring! Sounds great, but the most amazing thing is the increase in power/performance. I actually spun the tires coming out of the driveway and I wasn't even trying! What a difference getting it back to the factory specs made. I guess fine-tuning and attention to minor details makes more of a difference than I ever knew. I've never been a motorhead, but I'm hooked and loving every minute of B ownership! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Best part is, doing tasks like that will give you more confidence to tackle any of the other repairs you may need. With a good set of tools and a manual there is not much you can't do yourself.

yup-yup. And on a B it's ~almost~ possible to do most jobs with three combo wrenches, two screwdrivers an' a pair of channel-locks ;-}

Glad t' hear you tackled the tappets. Well done.

yeh, its a good feeling isnt it.
To have the slightest idea of how things work and how to make them work better.

Jarrod.

Think after all my learnings, my mechanic is going to say...

"EYYYY, WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT CRAZY YOUNG GUY, JARROD!?!?!?!"

Satisfaction in a job well done... nothing like it. The best part is seeing how much better it sounds and runs.
