Mercury Bobcat, looked to be "restored". Had the Florida antique tag, even had the original hubcaps. Driver in his mid-30's... just a butt-ugly re-badged Pinto Runabout!

I kept staring at it and wondering WHY someone would take the time and money to renew that lump. But I s'pose there's a Pacer done up someplace too, though.

J-P?

I have no desire for a Bobcat - (except the earth moving kind and that only for square dancing)
Dancing Bobcats

Were Bobcats even a USA product? Or a Canadian Mercury only? The only (only!) Pinto I would ever aspire to (probably not to own but just to see again) was a bright red early Pinto that belonged to my best friend's mother. This, partly for nostalgia but mostly because it was the most base modelled bone stock car you could get - vinyl, 4 speed, I think it had heat. It was amazingly basic even then.

Once again snide comments like this  remind me I do have standards, albeit low ones (Yes, in all of life, I am cheap, I am easy and I can be tricked.

) But, as mentioned, beauty is the eye of the beholder and far be it from me to tell someone their baby is ugly. We have a guy at our local cruise night who has an immaculately restored diesel Chevette! Wouldn't be my choice but he is happy and in truth probably has a rarer car than most.

Oh, yeah - they were sold here. I remember the ad campaign presenting the Bobcat as the Cougar's kid brother.

Wait, I thought Turbo Del Fuego was a place at the tip of South America. :yesnod:

...or a Chevy Chase parody of Deney Terrio.

We had another name for Pumpkin Orange, but it's inappropriate to say here. P-U!

Doc, you and I are probably in a very small number who can admit they know who that is in public!
