Pull Steering Wheel / Column

I've almost got the car down to the tub stage. The only major part left on the car is the steering wheel/ column and dash. We've tried and tried to pull the wheel, but no luck. I'd like to try from the back side.

Is the clamp at the end of the inner steering column removable from the column?

Once I've got the column and the steering wheel out, dol you have any ideas on how to remove the wheel?

Pictures soon. The fun is just beginning!

Did that after soaking the wheel in penetrating oil for days. This one is really stuck. The wheel was already slightly bent from the PO trying to remove it.

Remember the stearing shaft is soft metal and will bend with beating on it, it distorts the threads as well.

How about a wheel puller and some messing around to make it work.

Just watch your teeth. Wehn it comes off it comes off with great force. Since it is out of the car good luck in gettign some leverage point other than placing in a vise. I've got one I need to do the same to. Separate a steering column from an old wheel on a spare I have in the garage.

FWIW I just took the wheel & column off as one unit - I'm not replacing the wheel at this point so saw no real reason to remove.
