Puff of smoke at start up

I am getting a puff of smoke when I start my 93 XJ40. It also idles rough for about ten seconds. I figure that it's worn valve guides on the exhaust side. Could someone scan and email me the info on torque specs for the valve cover and what is the dimension of the valve stem? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/computer.gif

This puff of smoke is pretty standard for the XJ40 engine and should be of no concern. The engine does not have seals on the valve stems. The valve cover torque has nothing to do with this characteristic. Dont worry about it.

John knows his Jags.....if the man says don't worry about, then you can sleep easy tonight! That was an easy fix wasn't it? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Kewl! I was a bit concerned by it, though I figured that it wasn't a big deal. I was looking for the valve cover torque specs so if I took it off and installed umbrella seals i could re-install correctly. I have NO problem letting her puff a little for now. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif Cheers and thanks.
