MGB-GT Pros and cons on MGB GT as a project?

I'm getting closer to completing my Bugeye sprite project, and came across a 1969 MGB GT. It looks pretty straight, but don't know much about it. Price is pretty good at $1500 ask.

The Bugeye was my first LBC project car, and I don't know anything much about the MGBs.

Thoughts on the car as a project?
How does it compare to a spridget?

thanks for any input

Fred

MGBs (roadster or GT) a great little cars. I had a Bugeye (sold last year) that I did major work on, and now have a MGB roadster. I find the MGB to be, in many ways, like a 120% Spridget. Even the engines look somewhat similar. Tools used are similar (SAE/standard fasteners on both) and the designs are remarkably along the same lines so SU carbs, leer shocks, rack-and-pinion steering, front discs, generally simpler systems all.

MGB vs Bugeye, well you gain more space, roll up windows, more power. The B-series motor takes well to tuning and is pretty stout. Cars could be found with overdrive from the factory as well.

If you liked working on a Spridget, then you'll like working on a MGB.

Hey, Fred.

Can't compare it directly to a Spridget, but would imagine that the GT will offer a completely different driving experience, and will be a nice alternative. I'm in the final stages of getting mine on the road, and looking forward to having a closed coupe version of the B roadster that we already have.

Headroom is better, and I won't have to duck down to see traffic lights through the low windshield of the roadster. Same goes for entry and exit when the top is up on the roadster. Much easier to get in and out. Of course, that doesn't apply when the top's down!

Basically, it's just more ~car~ than the Spridget, and a nice option for driving in weather other than sunny days. And they are gaining in popularity, if that's a concern.

If it's a good one, go for it!

This may come across as blasphemy, but, imho, the MGB/GT is like a Chevy Nova from back when. Uncomplicated, easy to work on, relatively inexpensive, as reliable as a watch that requires winding every couple of days (remember those?? LoL) If you're handy in the least and it sounds like you are, there's nothing about an MGB/GT you can't handle.

I love MGB GTs, in fact, I can't really see myself ever having any other MGB for the street. Compared to a Bugeye, this car will seem like a Cadillac as for comfort. The GT is a car you can carry more stuff in as well, than your given roadster, I like to call te GT, the SUV of LCBs  The GT is a British car you don't mind taking a trip in.
