is it necessary to pull my prop shaft to reinstall my motor?
it apppears i can just hook it back through the shifter hole as the tranny is lowered in.....comments?
ps....did anyone tell Jack that there are computers overseas also? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I've never tried it, but I guess it could be done. I've always reinstalled it afterwards, since getting the motor/tranny in is enough of a task with out worrying about the drive shaft.

I've never tried it either /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonono.gif! Mostly I guess because unless U-joints are BRAND new, I replace them. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nopity.gif

Cheap "insurence"!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angel.gif

just pull it, it'll be easier.

Also agree that unless you've replaced them recently, new u-joints are a good investment.

Mine's a 1500, but I did not remove the prop shaft and I hooked it up through the tran tunnel hole. I used a coat hanger to lift the shaft and hold it in place while I got the first bolt in. After that, I put it in gear, blocked the passenger rear tire so it would not turn, and turned the driver rear wheel to bring the other holes around. Don't know if this will work on a 1275, but I think it should.

My son and I used to get frustrated trying to put the driveshafts back in the race cars, and we pull the engine/trans several times thru the summer. We'd tried several different ways of reinserting the driveshaft into the trans but none was a sure-shot first-time affair. Finally Brad (the son) says, "Why don't we just pause as the engine/trans goes in and insert the driveshaft by reaching through the shifter opening?" So we tried it and that is the way we do it now. Quick and easy! And one does not even have to disconnect the rear end of the driveshaft.

The only caution is to NOT have much force to the rear applied to the engine as you insert the driveshaft!! If you do, the trans can come to the rear several inches and fairly quickly catching one's hand. We haven't done that yet but we do observe a healthy bit of caution with the possibility.

BTW, a friend of ours relayed the idea of stuffing the front U-joint with various things that'll come out in operation. Better but...

Oh, and this friend even told us about the time he'd stuffed his front U-joint with, I think the story was, a ham sandwich!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif

I did the tape trick once and got to listen to "thwap, thwap, thwap" for a few hundred miles before it finally flew off.

i like the coat hanger idea, and i think im getting an engine hoist for my birthday which will makes things ALOT easier than the way it came out....see my previous pics of my homade quicky hoist...almost came apart...who knew such a small motor could be so heavy!
lookin for an early May launch hopefully.......
