Well here it is after I had intended to have my engine back in and running and it was finally taken apart yesterday. And now the engine is only part of the project.
The shop doing the work has been extremely busy and my new company has simply been demanding all my time. It is especially frustrating because I have just not been able to have any personal time to take care of a couple of promised items for a person on this forum. But it will happen.
I will take some pictures tomorrow of the engine but this is generally what was found. This is a never-been-opened 46k motor.
1) Thrust washers are to new dimensions however there is a .010" end play.
2) Broken top ring in #1.
3) Skirt scored on #3 piston.
4) Three exhaust lobes nearly round.
Otherwise things look good. It looks like it will be bored .020 over but I will know more when I see it in the morning.
I suspected a cam problem and think we will also find the cam bearing surfaces on the block considerably worn.
Over all I am excited to find the backfire problem that has dogged this engine for many years according to the PO's service records. It was probably the reason he even sold the car. I am really excited to get it back on the road and finally have it run like it should.
