My new paint gun arrived yesterday so today I got a coat of paint on the tub and panels. Some assembly required.

Looking good, looking very good.

I just got a lot of three used ones off ebay, a siphon, a touch up and a HVLP. I took a chance that the HVLP would give a decent finish but it seems to be pretty good. I can't justify a high end gun for single stage paint in a dirty garage with almost no air movement / filtration. Yes there is lots of dust, but that is to be expected.

Trust th' siphon one best.

Well done.

A little orange peel on the door?

Orange peel I can live with...a little sanding and buffing and nobody will ever know. But dirt is just aggravating. There isn't much you can do about that.

Chris,

looks great!

FWIW - I went and looked at Mike's BE shell a week or two ago. It's a great project for someone, but I've decided to repair my tub. I recently bought all the panels. Now I need to make the time! Thanks again for your help.

Nial - I couldn't find a good (ie up to date with todays pigments) formulation for dark British racing green (GN29) so it is actually the Miata BRG from the NA model line. Fitting I guess since Erica's race Miata is BMC glacier white.

Years ago, I couldn't find a good GN29 formula. I went with a BRG from a 2002 Aston Martin. It looks very similar to what you have on your car.

Hey Chris, Very nice work so far. My car is in need of serious paint work. did you remove the previous paint down to the metal? If so what did you use or how did you go about it?

Chris:

My "BRG" is a mix of Rustoleum Forest Green with some Rustoleum Gloss Black added.
I just eyeballed it until is looked about right to me.

I like the early NA Miatas in the factory BRG. The later dark green Miatas ("Mica Green") aren't as nice, to my eye.

The finish on my BRG Spridget is terrible. But it's about the right shade and looks OK from 50 feet and 80 mph. :jester:

I've decided that I'm going to pay someone to paint the A35. I haven't got the patience or skill.

Chris/Trevor:
I'm confused about your pigment availability comments - are you saying todays pigments are so different, the formulas will not produce the correct color? The reason I ask is that I'm thinking about getting my paint from a shop in San Diego. I have included a link to their website and they have color charts posted going way back. I'm thinking of Cherry Red but now I'm wondering if it will really look original.
Thanks!
Roy
